Your 4 hours, minute by minute

What you will see at the Grand Mosque

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE and one of the largest in the world. It opened in 2007 and holds more than 40,000 worshippers. On the visit you walk the main courtyard, framed by 1,096 columns inlaid with mother of pearl, then the main prayer hall with its 5,700 square metre carpet, hand knotted by 1,200 artisans, and the seven Swarovski crystal chandeliers. The reflective pools around the courtyard give the classic photograph, and the mosque is lit in a lunar cycle after sunset so it looks different every night of the month.

Entry is free. Visitor hours are 9 AM to 10 PM Saturday to Thursday and 9 AM to 12 PM on Fridays (last entry earlier on Fridays), with the standard visitor route closed during prayer times. We check the day's timings before pickup and build the visit around them.

What's included

Good to know

The mosque closes during Friday prayers and adjusts hours in Ramadan and we plan around this automatically. Modest dress required; abayas lent free at the entrance.

You will pass through UAE immigration on the way out and airport security on the way back in. Most passports receive a visa on arrival at no charge; see the visa guide for the full list, or read can I leave Abu Dhabi airport during a layover for how the process works.

Questions about this tour

Is 4 hours really enough?

For the Grand Mosque, yes: 15 minutes from the airport, 90 minutes inside plus a Corniche photo stop. For the Louvre choose the 8-hour Grand Layover.

How long does my layover need to be?

A minimum of 6 hours between scheduled landing and scheduled departure. The tour takes 4 hours; the other 2 cover immigration on arrival and security before your flight. Send your two flight numbers on WhatsApp and we will confirm within minutes.

Do I need a visa to leave the airport?

Passport holders from the UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia and around 70 other countries receive a free visa on arrival. Others need a transit visa arranged in advance. Our visa guide lists every nationality.

What happens to my luggage?

If your bags are checked through to your final destination they stay with the airline and you never see them. Hand luggage comes with you and stays in the locked vehicle while you are inside the mosque.

What should I wear?

Shoulders and knees covered; women receive a free abaya at the mosque if needed. Comfortable shoes, as you'll remove them inside the prayer hall.

Can you do this at night?

Yes, we operate 24/7, and the mosque illuminated after dark is its best look. Last visitor entry is 9:30 PM most days, so tell us your landing time and we will confirm whether a night visit fits.
