Flying Etihad via Abu Dhabi? Your Layover Options, Explained

Etihad routes millions of transit passengers through Zayed International every year. Here is how the airline programme and an independent layover tour compare, honestly.

Flying Etihad via Abu Dhabi? Your Layover Options, Explained

Option 1: Etihad's stopover programme

Etihad has periodically offered stopover deals for connecting passengers — typically discounted or complimentary hotel nights for overnight-plus stopovers you plan when booking your ticket. Check Etihad's official site for the current offer; programmes change.

Best for: travellers who deliberately booked a 24-hour-plus stop and want a hotel bed included.

Option 2: an independent layover tour (that's us)

If your connection is the ordinary kind — 5, 8, 12 hours you did not choose — a hotel programme does not help. A door-to-door tour does.

Best for: same-day connections of 4–14 hours, night arrivals, and travellers who want the city, not a hotel room.
